Cost estimates for our services

Salem Health supports health care pricing transparency. We provide tools to help you evaluate what care is best for you and anticipate related costs.

What information is needed to get an estimate?

1. Description of services

You will need to provide a description of the medical service you are seeking or the CPT procedure code. You can get the CPT procedure code from your provider's office.

2. Name of your insurance

3. Type of insurance

For example, PPO, HMO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid or self-pay.

Create your own estimate

The estimate tool is part of MyChart. You can create a guest estimate if you do not have a MyChart account. Patients with MyChart accounts can create and save their estimates.

You can personalize estimates based on insurance. The tool integrates with most major insurance carriers and is dependent on the information received from your insurance carrier. Please validate your benefit coverage with your insurance carrier. For patients without insurance, a self-pay discount will be applied.

More about estimates

What is a good faith estimate?

If you are not using insurance, you have the right to receive a good faith estimate for non-emergency services.

A good faith estimate:

  • Shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs for an item or service. Costs are based off the average of the billed charges for the service. Additional services, such as tests and supplies, may change the cost.
  • Is based on information known at the time the estimate was created.
  • Does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur.
  • Does not include any provider services that bill you separately (e.g., radiologist, pathologist, emergency medicine, intensivists, or other independent medical practitioners not employed by Salem Health).
  • Is dependent on the accuracy of your benefits. You will want to check with your insurance to ensure that services are in-network and covered at the highest level of your benefits.

How accurate will the estimate be?

Please understand that in many cases it is impossible to predict the final charges that will result from your services. Unexpected variables could include:

  • The length of time spent in surgery or recovery.
  • Supplies and medications required.
  • Additional tests ordered by the physician.
  • Any unusual special care, unexpected conditions or complications during your procedure.

Salem Health is committed to making sure our patients get the hospital care they need regardless of their ability to pay for that care. Learn more about our financial assistance program.
